It’s finally here! The Masters at Augusta National

Hello friends,

One of the greatest sports weeks is finally upon us! A tradition unlike any other is ready to start and I am here to break down this week’s action.

Top Stories:

There’s has been some awesome buzz around Augusta this week. A huge component of the Master is the pre-tournament media and storylines.  First, Tiger Woods is healthy and seeking his 5th Green Jacket. Jack Nicklaus was quoted today:

Tiger Woods responded:

Let’s win this thing! I want nothing more than a stacked leaderboard with Tiger on top come Sunday. I don’t even want it. I fucking NEED it.

Next, we have Rory McIlroy, easily the hottest player on tour coming in looking for the career grand slam. Rory has been close in previous years but always comes up 1 or 2 shots short. Compared to the field, Rory plays with the most instinct. Augusta is going to play long and wet.  Reminds me of the 2011 US Open at Congressional where Rory won by a million shots. He is certainly not going to blow out the field but I expect this golf course to suit his game well.

Finally,  Justin Rose comes in as number 1 player in the world. He’s had a couple 2nd place finishes. Will he break through this week?

Augusta National is not short of historic moments. We have seen some incredible moments and failures on Sunday.  I want to share my top 5 favorite moments at The Masters!

Number 5 :

Phil’s second on the par 5 13th! From the Pine Straw! He missed the Eagle put!! SAD!

Number 4:

Prodigy child, Jordan Spieth wins his first major championship! Runs the tournament start to finish and put on an almost (1 stroke difference) Tiger 1997 like performance.

Number 3 :

My boy Freddy “Boom Boom” Couples wins his first and only major championship. However, his shot on number 12 was a gift from the Golfing GODS. I mean theres just no way that ball doesn’t go in the water. He made 3!

Number 2:

When Bubba Watson squared up against Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff. On the first playoff hole (9th hole), he hit one of the greatest shots I have ever seen.

Number 1:

Tiger chips in against Chris DeMarco on the 16th. Speaks for itself…

Winner: Rory Mcllroy – If his putter is working, he elevates himself to another level of golf. Plus, conditions will be long and wet and you will need to hit the ball right to left.

Dark Horse: Tony Finau – If he doesn’t break his ankle this week, I can see him putting up a solid 4 rounds of golf

Winning Score: -12  – Soft golf course will encourage birdies out there. If they dry it out and make it fast then I can see -7.

Low Amateur – Devin Bling.  UCLA Sophomore who won the US Amateur tournament.

Augusta drastically needs to improve this area of the tournament. It’s starting to get very annoying. The biggest tournament in the year and we get like 12 hours of total coverage.

Thursday – ESPN 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Friday – ESPN: 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Saturday – CBS 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Sunday – CBS 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Final Thoughts

Enjoy Augusta!
