Let’s head to Riviera for Genesis Open

We head from the coastlines of the Monterey Penninsula down to Santa Monica for the Genesis Open. We all were spoiled last week with a nice Monday finish. Always love some extra golf to get the blood flowing on a depressing Monday in February.

On a little bit of a sad note, last year marks one year since Bill Haas life scaring car accident. Unfortunately, the driver of the car, Mark Gibello (Executive VP of TCW Asset Management) passed away from the accident. There is definitely some emotional scares as Haas walks around Riv this week. He was quoted saying “There are a lot of emotions that I keep inside that impact me in ways that I’m figuring out, whether that’s good or bad,” Haas said. “It’s given me a perspective.”

On a more positive note, Bubba Watson won the Genesis Open in 2018.

If we go WAY WAY WAY back, we probably do not remember this but Tiger made his first PGA tour appearance at 16…

The Course:

Riviera Country Club is an exclusive, private country club located in Southern California. Being located just outside LA, it’s home to many famous members. It designed by  William Bell and George Thomas in 1928. This challenging golf course plays to a par 71 and is about 7300 yards long. Most notably, the 10th hole is one of the biggest risk-reward holes on the PGA tour. Typically, you would try and layup with a long iron and leave yourself a wedge in. However, most pros will try and hit the hart of the green with 3-wood/driver.

The Field:

We have a pretty stacked field at Riv this week. With Tiger back in the field this week, naturally all the best players will follow. Looking forward to watching the absolute power threesome of Rory, JT, and Tiger on Thursday/Friday.

Also, we will get to see DJ, Mickelson, Spieth, Matsuyama, Fleetwood, DeChambeau, and one of my personal favorite… Freddy BOOM BOOM Couples

Score – Even though Riv plays very tough, these guys go pretty low. Last year, Bubba won at -12. In 2017, DJ won at -17. I am going to say -15 wins it this year.

Winner – Back when I wrote my preview for the Waste Management, I literally wrote out Rickie as my winner simply because “he was due.” This week I’m taking Rory Mcllroy because he is so fucking due for a win. Yes, he won last year but he needs a season where he wins 3-4 events including a major championship.

Dark Horse – I love Patrick Cantlay this week. At 33-1 odds this week, he finished tied for 2nd last year. Very good pick this week.
