Earlier this week Titleist unveiled a new, limited edition, Jet Black finish AP2 and AP3 iron set. An all-black Titleist AP2? As Michael Scott would say, “OH MY GOD! IT’S HAPPENING!! EVERYONE STAY CALM!!”
Set to launch on March 1st, these clubs have been a long time in the making. Josh Talge, VP of Golf Club Marketing at Titleist admitted that this release was inspired by Pros and amateurs alike. “One request we heard from both TOUR players and amateurs, particularly those who have gravitated to our Jet Black Vokey SM7 wedges, was if they could have these same irons in a darker finish.”
This is not the first time that Titleist has released a limited time color on their irons, as they did release a similar concept with the 716 AP1’s. What really differentiates these irons from the previous launch is the influence that the Jet Black Vokey’s played in inspiring the look of these clubs. The 716 black finish was a cool concept at the time, but this year’s set will look like a direct extension of the Jet Black Vokey’s.
These irons get me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning. As I write this in the Jacksonville Airport at 4:30am, it may be the sleep deprivation, but imagining a nice wear spot on the center of the club face really makes me think everything in the world is going to be okay. I couldn’t be more excited to see these in action for the first time.
Oh…Titleist, I’ll send you my specs so I can give a performance review as well.
