Winner: Xander Schauffele captures his 4th career win last weekend in the opening Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. Not a huge surprise here as he has really come out of his shell in the last couple years.
The craziest part about this win is that he shot a remarkable 62 (which included two hole outs for eagle) to secure the win over Gary Woodland. You know what’s even crazier? This win moves Xander up to number 6 in overall world golf rankings. From watching him over the last few years, I knew he had tremendous game but he is the exact same position as Justin Thomas two years ago. Definitely expecting a multiple win season for Xander this year. We might even see a major. After this win, his Masters odds went from 60-1 down to 30-1. Could be a great pick as his game fits perfectly for Augusta.
LeaderBoard: Schauffele (-23) Woodland (-22) Thomas (-18) Mcllroy (-15) DJ (-15) Leishman (-15)
Disappointment: Rory’s final round 72! This is the story of Rory last 24 months. Consistently putting himself in great contention but can’t close it out. One positive of the week is that his game has drastically improved. He’s always been super consistent off the tee but his short game was dialed in this week.
Shot of the Tournament: I give it to our winner with his massive second on the par 5 18th. This is one of the best closing holes on tour. Massive par 5 with hazard all down the right. Xander makes it look like a par 4 with this shot of the Tournament. #Clutch Check out Video here!
Next Up: The PGA Tour Heads to the Sony Open as it continues its Island swing. It will return to a regular PGA tour format with a full field ready to battle it out. I will be posting preview for the tournament Wednesday night.
