Are we ready to watch some golf?? From where, Hawaii!!
Every year the PGA tour schedules this tournament to kick off from Paradise. It’s a very cool opportunity for all the players to spend a few weeks in Hawaii playing for critical FedEx Cup points.
Let’s dive in and I’ll provide you with an overview of the tournament and give you some players to look out for.
Where is it being played?
The Kapalua Plantation course is located in Maui, Hawaii. I was able to play the course last year and it was one of the nicest golf courses I have ever played. The coolest aspect about this course is that it is located on the West tip Maui so every hole is subject to an unreal view of the Pacific. Originally, designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore it plays about 7,400 yards from the tips. It’s a very long golf course but the wind is always blowing and the Pros make the course look like chip and putt.
Who’s in field?
It’s called the Tournament of Champions for a reason. Every player who won in the 2018 PGA Season is invited to play. Who am I going to be watching? Rory Mcllroy! In one of my previous blogs, I was very very curious to see if Rory was going to start his 2019 season in Hawaii. I guess we finally have our answer! However, it’s a world class field with Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, etc. The top players in the world are all gathering for this epic showdown in Hawaii. Sadly, we will not being seeing Tiger in paradise. I really was not expecting him to play, however we never know what his schedule will entail.
Who will win?
Rory Mcllroy!!! He has been very vocal about the 2019 season and is putting himself in best possible spot to succeed. I would definitely look for him to make a statement this week.
