We are inching past the one-year mark since Tiger made his miraculous comeback in 2018 capped with an impressive victory at the TOUR Championship in September.
It was almost exactly 365 days ago that Tiger was entering the 2017 HERO World Challenge ranked 1,199 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He is now ranked 14. 14!! The 43-year-old has gone through four back surgeries (three and one spinal fusion depending on who you ask) and yet, he continues to be in the hunt in every field he enters.
What can we expect from Tiger in 2019? He recently stated that he plans on easing up heading into the new season. Tiger appeared in 19 events in the 2018 season and admitted that by the end of the season his body was beat down. For reference, from 2000-2007, when he amassed 59 wins, he averaged 20 events per year. 10 years and four back procedures later he kept right on pace with his younger, pre-back surgery self, not too shabby. Could 2019 be the year Tiger gets his 15th major and his first since the 2008 US Open?
My answer is: YES. 2019 brings Major Championships to three venues that Tiger has finished in the victory circle: The Masters at Augusta National, the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, and the US Open at Pebble Beach.
Tiger has a combined six Major wins at these venues and with Tiger carrying as much confidence as ever, all signs point to Major number 15 in 2019. Tiger is now more in touch with his body and, without a doubt, he will make a schedule to be at the top of his game entering each Major. If my prayers are answered, we’re not looking at just one Major win this year, we’ll be celebrating three.
